Cedar Island Marsh

photoCedar Island Sanctuary contains more than 300 acres of pristine protected wetlands adjacent Jenkins Creek and Somers Cove Marina.

The sanctuary is home to abundant wildlife and a large blue heron rookery as well as unique fresh water springs amid a large salt marsh. This marsh has an interesting history and has served many purposes for the inhabitants of lower Somerset County.

Access to the area is currently by permit only. Cedar Island is a co-managed project shared between the Crisfield Heritage Foundation, City of Crisfield, and the Lower Shore Land Trust. To ensure the sanctuary remains in its pristine condition, they ask you obtain permission prior to use. They are happy to issue a permit and you can obtain one for yourself, family or students by contacting them or calling 410-968-2501
